Todd started music when he was young. Originally wanting to be an actor, he started with acting classes and going out on commercial auditions. During one of his classes, one of the instructors told his mother- "An actor is good...but an actor who sings is better." So began the voice lessons. With that his singing career began, mainly working in musical theater.
Later through high school (back in the late 80's), Rap music was exploding onto the scene, Todd found it wasn't something he could relate to. One day his grandmother Dorothy told him he should sing country. Todd was hesitant at first because the country music he knew of was the classic kind that his grandmother listened to on the AM dial. This wasn't too appealing to him. She then told him about the 'new' country music with stars like Clint Black, Garth Brooks, and Alan Jackson. So after checking it out Todd found a place to call his own.
Starting out solo, he sang in and out of small shows as a guest performer. One artist playing the clubs named Tony Ryan often gave him guest spots with his band- Tony Ryan and His Crazy Hearts.
One night on a whim, while he was hanging out at the Neon Cactus at the Disneyland Hotel, Todd was asked to sing the third verse to Garth Brooks "Friend's In Low Places" . After the small performance, an artist named Bo Donaldson approached him asking Todd to audition for lead singer in his band. From there Todd started playing bars and clubs off and on over the next several years including a trip to Boston playing at the Avalon. |
